The first aim of this article was to present and analyze results of empirical
research in order to establish a correlation between the ways of conceptualizing
freedom, preferred by young people and the structure of their personality traits.
The issue was treated from an exploratory perspective. To explore the concept of
freedom the questionnaire PKW was used. For description the personality, as a theoretical
base, the Five-Factor Model of Personality, created by Costa and McCrae
was chosen. For empirical research NEO-PI-R inventory was used. For determining
the correlation between personality and freedom canonical analysis was used
it gave enough grounds to verify hypothesis relating to the correlation between
personality and ways of conceptualizing freedom, preferred by young people. The
second aim of this article was to indicate the value of canonical analysis in psychological
research. Canonical analysis is used rarely. Results of the research allow to
derive some important conclusions.
